Crimp Assembly: Fast assembly, low parts count, low cost.

Military Clamp (standard type): Weatherproof, standard on many UG and M39012 connectors.

For Semi-Rigid Cable:

Direct Solder: Fast assembly, requires separate soldering of center contact.

Military Clamp (standard) Assembly (for flexible cable): This is the most labor-intensive of attachment methods for flexible cable, and is standard on most UG and M39012 QPL connectors. These connectors are weatherproof, and can be disassembled for cable replacement if necessary. The cable is trimmed and the braid combed out (left), the braid folded back over the ferrule and the contact soldered to the center conductor (middle), and the cable / hardware is inserted into the body assembly and the backnut tightened (right).

Heli-Grip Assembly (for flexible cable): Heli-Grip connectors assemble as quickly as crimp types without the use of special tools. They are weatherproof, and can be disassembled for cable replacement if necessary. The cable is trimmed and the jacket slit (left), the cone / insulator / contact assembly pushed onto the cable and the contact soldered to the center conductor (middle), and the cable / hardware is inserted into the body assembly and the backnut tightened (right).

Crimp Assembly (for flexible cable): Crimp type connectors have a reduced parts count compared with clamp types, and assemble quickly using industry-standard hex crimp tools. They are not weatherproof unless heat-shrink tubing is applied after assembly. The cable is trimmed (left), the contact soldered to the center conductor (middle), and the cable is inserted into the body assembly and the sleeve crimped to the braid (right).

Old-Style Military Clamp Assembly (for flexible cable): This clamping style is employed by some UG series connectors, and is very labor-intensive. These connectors are weatherproof, and can be disassembled for cable replacement if necessary. The cable is trimmed and the braid combed out (left), the braid folded back over the ferrule and the contact soldered to the center conductor (middle), and the cable / hardware is inserted into the body assembly and the backnut tightened (right).

Direct Solder Assembly (for semi-rigid cable): This method provides excellent electrical performance, although care must be taken to precisely maintain the gap between the contact and the cable dielectric (see center illustration). The cable is trimmed (left), the contact is soldered to the center conductor (middle), and the cable is inserted into the body assembly and the cable jacket soldered to the connector body (right).

Delta OneStep Assembly (for semi-rigid cable): Delta's OneStep assembly eliminates the contact gapping operation, because the contact is captivated in the connector. Just trim the cable (left), and insert it into the body assembly and solder the cable jacket to the connector body (right). Additionally, SMA right angle plugs with OneStep assembly feature a swept contact for increased electrical performance.

Solder-Clamp Assembly (for semi-rigid cable): This method does not provide the level of electrical performance of direct solder assembly, but can be less expensive because it is used with the same body assemblies as military-clamp connectors for flexible cable. When used with right-angle connectors, the connector can be repositioned relative to the cable axis before tightening the backnut. The cable is stripped (left) the jacket soldered to the ferrule and the contact soldered to the center conductor (middle), and the cable / hardware inserted into the body assembly and the backnut tightened (right).
